Jon, thanks so much for starting this forum! I too am a new beek, just started last year. Unfortunately, my colony is dead already though. I'm not too sure what happened, but I started noticing less and less brood towards the end of summer and when I inspected them in the fall again there appeared to be only half the hive left. So, on top of the queen laying less it looks like I had a late swarm. Regardless, I am sticking with the Warre and in fact ordered a second hive for this coming season.

Anyway, even though I've read lots of books already I'm sure I'll learn some valuable pointers here. Here's to a successful forum!

Welcome! What zone are you in? Always looking for somebody to share my in the cold. Zone three here.

We're in a comfortable zone 4, maybe more like a 4.5. We seem to be between 4 and 5, so it's hard to say.
